Use Squirt to Make a Perfect Paloma

3-Ingredient Happy HourThe weekly drink column featuring super simple yet delicious libations.

A Paloma is one of my favorite “something and sodas,” mainly because it’s a good excuse to drink some Squirt, the grapefruit soda of my youth. Combine it with tequila, and a little lime, and you have a very sunny, sippable cocktail you can build right in the glass.

If Squirt isn’t your thing, any grapefruit soda will work. Jarritos and San Pellegrino are my two other favorites, but if you have another favorite brand, you should feel empowered to use that. Other than your favorite soda and some tequila (blanco), you’ll need half a lime. If you want to venture into the world of four-ingredient cocktails, a pinch of salt in the beverage is pretty nice as well. To make this fruity, refreshing cocktail, you will need:

  • 2 ounces tequila blanco
  • 1/2 a lime
  • 4 ounces grapefruit soda

Add tequila and the juice of half a lime to a highball filled with ice. Top with grapefruit soda and gently stir to combine. Enjoy and repeat as needed.
