R. Kelly arrested on federal child porn, racketeering, obstruction charges – Washington Examiner

Disgraced musician R. Kelly was out walking his dog Thursday night when authorities arrested him for a litany of federal sex crimes.

Kelly, 52, was taken into custody in Chicago after a 13-count indictment out of the Northern District of Illinois that includes child pornography charges in addition to counts of enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice.

Kelly, whose real name is Robert Kelly, is also facing a separate five-count indictment from the Eastern District of New York that charges him with racketeering.

“R Kelly was arrested in Chicago tonight on charges contained in a 13-count indictment returned today in the Northern District of Illinois,” the attorney’s office said in a statement. “The indictment includes charges of child pornography and obstruction of justice.”

The new charges add to Kelly’s growing list of legal troubles. In February he was arrested on 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse by Chicago’s Cook County Sheriff’s Department involving four alleged victims. He pleaded not guilty to the charges, some of which go back more than 20 years.

Kelly’s arrest comes after decades of rumors and allegations that the R&B star was sexually abusing women and minors.

Kelly who prior to Thursday’s arrest was out on $1 million bond for the February arrest, is set to be arraigned on the new charges Friday. The musician’s representative, Darrell Johnson, said he would hold a press conference in Atlanta at 9:30 a.m. Friday.
